Mineral Farmer's Market Vendor Guidelines

Mineral Farmer's Market

Vendor Guidelines - 2021

Our purpose: We organized this farmer's market for these reasons:

  • To create a new income opportunity for area growers and craftspeople
  • To offer consumers high-quality farm-fresh products and craft work at a convenient location
  • To strengthen ties within our community

Place, dates and times: The location of the market is the field on Louisa Avenue across from Luck Field in Mineral, Virginia. The market will be open seasonally every Saturday from May through October. Hours of operation will be 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Our rules: For a farmer's market to succeed, it has to run smoothly. We have set up several guidelines so that vendors know what's allowed and expected. Some of the basic rules include:

  • The Mineral Farmer's Market is a non-partisan, non-political community market. It is alcohol free. We love friendly pets on leashes...come see the manager for doggie treats! "Sasha" and "Scooter" are the Farmer's Market mascots, and should be spoiled some more.
  • Vendors must be set up by 8:00 AM to accommodate customers, and remain set up until 1:00 PM. After setup, the vendors vehicle should be moved away from the sellers area and into the parking area.
  • Regarding the number of days that a vendor sells at the market, we require that you indicate on the application form which days you plan to be in attendance. Consistency and professionalism are important, so if customers know they can find a particular vendor at the market each Saturday, they will feel most confident shopping at the market and will make the market a regular and scheduled part of their week. If, however, a vendor is unable to attend on a scheduled day, that vendor must contact the market manager ahead of time. Vendors also have the option of trying out the market for a day to see if it suits them, before committing to a certain number of days. In addition, if a vendor is only interested in selling their products for a day or two, this can be arranged. All of the above arrangements will be on a space-available basis. Any questions - PLEASE ASK!
  • Vendors are encouraged to participate in the organizational duties of the market. The market board members serve on a volunteer basis. For the market to be successful, all participants should plan to contribute in whatever way they are able.
  • Products sold at the Mineral Farmer's Market should be produced within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Please see the market manager for further clarification of this term. An exception to this rule might be that you grow your own cut flowers and sell them as an arrangement in a vase that you did not produce. Interpretation of this guideline will be at the discretion of the board, but a good guideline is 75% homemade or grown within the Commonwealth of Virginia." (No yard sale/flea market items please!) Questions? Call Becky Vigon at (540) 854-7626.
  • Products that are suitable to sell at the market include fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, meats, baked goods, potted and cut flowers and herbs, eggs, bee products, maple syrup, preserves, and certain handmade crafts (at our Crafter's Alley). We will do our best to highlight seasonal, locally grown produce!
  • Grower/Producer: Any person, persons, or entity who is directly involved in the local production of an agricultural product is welcome as a vendor. No "resellers" permitted.
  • Vendors will be responsible for bringing their own canopy, table(s), etc. Each vendor will have an approximately 12' (foot) square space, unless previously arranged. (If you need more space, please ask! If you just have a little table, please don't be greedy.) Vendors will also be responsible for set up and clean up of their vendor area. It is of utmost importance that we leave the field clean.
